The Architect Knives Custom Firesteels are Swedish style firesteels with custom handles produced from man-made and natural materials. The handles are large enough so you can get a firm grip even when wearing heavy gloves but not so large that it will interfere with most carry methods such as a firesteel loop on a sheath. The handle is shaped to provide a secure and comfortable grip and features a generous lanyard hole.
Includes Paracord Lanyard and Striker
The ferrocerium rod is 3/8″ (10mm) in diameter and is compatible with all our ferro rod holders, and ferro rod holders from other merchants that have a 3/8″ firesteel loop.
Please be aware that the color and patterns may vary on firesteel handles due to layering differences in the manufacturing process.
These rods will last up to 12,000 strikes.
They produce 4,000 – 5,500 degree sparks and are designed to work in adverse and wet conditions.
How To Use A Firesteel
- Get a small amount of dry grass, tissue or other easily ignited material and make a small pile.
- (a) Grip the FireSteel with one hand (b) Take hold of the striker with the other hand (c) Position the striker (hack saw blade, knife spine, sizzers etc.) against the FireSteel rod just below the handle (d) Place the tip of the rod near the pile of material
- While firmly holding the striker against the rod, pull the firesteel back.

…big. And good looking too, matching the scales on the Architect knife it is mated to in its leather sheath’s loop. Bought a backup to keep in original condition for the heirloom combo.
