The Field Buddy is a Very Serious Tool. When weight and mass are critical to the task, this thing gets it done! Chopping, Batoning, notching,…. If you spend most of time doing light or intricate wood task, this may not be the right tool. Built like a tank and funtions like it was intended. — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

Fits the knife great, and the thumb ramp makes it really easy to unsheath the knife. — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

It fits and functions very well. I was able to, easily, fashion a leather backer for the sheath and I am very happy with my purchase. — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

Quite firm knife retention even without the sliding adjustment, and extremely secure at the uppermost position. This sheath readily lends itself to a wide range of carry options. — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

Thing is, I won’t know if it’s ok, good, great, or a waste of money until I’ve been using it for a decade or so. Has real potential but I’m not a collector/connoisseur, I bought this to replace a knife I’ve been using for 30+ years (didn’t die I finally lost it). The CPM-3V sounds good but it will take at least a couple of years of use, occasional abuse, and sharpening to know if it’s worth the extra pennies (ok dollars). Then there’s the closet factor, no matter how great a piece of gear seems, if it ends up sitting in the closest unused for some unknown reason it’s worse than trash unless the eBay factor some how miraculously makes a closet queen worth while. So, at 24 days with one camping trip, it seems to be 5 stars, for now. It’s big but that’s what I wanted, like the shape, like how it feels in my hand, and I like the sheath. — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection
Navigating the website to find, assemble, and purchase a 3V version was basically a pain in the backside, hard and time consuming to find the CPM-V3 blank then match it with the handle and sheath I wanted, but I obviously managed to get exactly what I wanted, so no foul but could have been easer. Maybe the website’s made for Apple users, I don’t know, but my computers (plural) don’t like it or the website doesn’t like them. (note, at the time of this purchase a 3V version was or still is not an option in the knife builder.) — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

I really like this knife. But even more the people are super. I have had this out on 2 trips in the back country and it has done a great job. I would have loved to have a 1″ section serrated but it is still my go to knife. A big shout out to the people at TKC. — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

If you’re looking for a fairly large outdoor knife in 3V steel (and 3V is probably one of the best choices around for that purpose), this is just hands down the best value going. (Not to mention a great design and fantastic quality)Try to find a 6.5″ knife in 3V from anyone for $200… and the OEM is TOPS, who are not only great knife manufacturers, but you also just just can’t get that combo anywhere else right now (IE I’ve never seen them offer a knife in 3V). And you get to customize your sheath, handle, and attachement point. And the knife is surprisingly light, well balanced the ergonomics are fantastic. The closest thing I can come up with to a criticism is that the knife won’t strike a fire steel (all edges apart from the one that’s meant to cut are very nicely rounded off), and I fixed that myself in about a half hour by taking the diamond stone that I use for sharpening to the spine (it will now throw sparks like a blowtorch). By my estimate, this means that someone who actually knows what they’re doing could square off the spine in 10 min or less, and presumably most people ordering a knife where they have to attach their own handles already would (unlike me) know what they’re doing. End result, I have a knife that’s both unique to me, and exceptionally well made even though I paid less than pretty much anyone else for 6.5″ of 3V steel. What’s not to love? I’d definitely buy it again, and would definitely recommend the Architect Field Buddy (and the knife builder concept in general) . — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

Holds the knife well. Does not scratch the blade like my last Armatus sheath did. It looks great as well. — Originally posted at TheKnifeConnection

I like the Architect sheath. Kydex is my favorite type of material for a sheath. Seems like it’ll last a long time.
