Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kydex a better material than leather for a tactical knife sheath?
While the best material depends on your exact needs, the short answer for tactical purposes is “yes”. Kydex is a weatherproof, exceptionally durable material that’s lightweight and easy to clean. So, leather has the scent, patina, and nostalgia factor. And it’s beautiful! But for practical wear and tear, you can’t beat a Kydex knife sheath. You’ll have that EDC knife sheath for a long time!
What sheath carry style is better for the bush?
It’s almost universally agreed that the best place to carry an EDC knife is in its sheath and at the waist. But opinions vary when it comes to “how.” One camp prefers the “dangler,” whereby your knife dangles from a loop instead of clipping on at the waistband. But honestly, it boils down to taste!
Is it true that leather sheaths collapse when I draw my knife?
Yes, and that’s one of the cons some users see for leather knife sheaths. The leather sheath will collapse, especially if you carry IWB (inside the waistband). The Kydex sheath doesn’t do that, so it’s easier to reintroduce the knife to the sheath while still wearing the sheath. That said, leather allows silent drawing, which Kydex doesn’t do! Many people also prefer the color options available with Kydex, while others appreciate the look and feel of leather.
